چکیده
The effect of small-amplitude periodic shear on annealing a band in binary glasses is investigated using molecular dynamics simulations. first introduced stable via large-amplitude shear, and then amorphous samples are subjected to repeated loading during thousands cycles at strain amplitudes below the yield strain. It was found that with increasing amplitude, relocated deeper potential energy levels, while change upon not affected by glass initial stability. results mechanical tests indicate modulus stress both increase towards plateau levels few hundred cycles, their magnitudes largest when loaded close analysis nonaffine displacements reveals breaks up into isolated clusters gradually decay over time, leading nearly reversible deformation within elastic range. These might be useful for processing metallic additive manufacturing.

Variable-amplitude oscillatory shear response of amorphous materials.
Variable-amplitude oscillatory shear tests are emerging as powerful tools to investigate and quantify the nonlinear rheology of amorphous solids, complex fluids, and biological materials. Quite a few recent experimental and atomistic simulation studies demonstrated that at low shear amplitudes, an amorphous solid settles into an amplitude- and initial-conditions-dependent dissipative limit cycl...
متن کاملThe yielding transition in amorphous solids under oscillatory shear deformation
Amorphous solids are ubiquitous among natural and man-made materials. Often used as structural materials for their attractive mechanical properties, their utility depends critically on their response to applied stresses. Processes underlying such mechanical response, and in particular the yielding behaviour of amorphous solids, are not satisfactorily understood. Although studied extensively, ob...

Using molecular dynamics simulations, we study the transient response of a binary Lennard-Jones glass subjected to periodic shear deformation. The amorphous solid is modeled as a three-dimensional Kob-Andersen binary mixture at a low temperature. The cyclic loading is applied to slowly annealed, quiescent samples, which induces irreversible particle rearrangements at large strain amplitudes, le...
متن کاملNature of Steady Flow in Entangled Fluids Revealed by Superimposed Small Amplitude Oscillatory Shear
We carry out a systematic investigation into steady-state shear behavior of six entangled solutions based on a superposition of continuous shear and small amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS). During steady shear in the shear thinning regime the superimposed SAOS frequency sweep measurements reveal characteristics of viscous liquids, e.g., terminal dynamics, on the experimental time scale of the ...
متن کاملStudy of Shear Viscosity of Amorphous Materials
Viscoelastic properties of amorphous solids deformed under uniform shear stress were studied using a kind of sandwich method with utilizing a sensitive optical technique. Time-dependent deformation data were analyzed on the basis of a mechanical model of anelasticity plus viscosity. Experiments were performed to determine the temperature dependence of viscosity for several kinds of inorganic gl...
